  崇明岛是世界上最大的沙岛,位于长江入海口和中国东部海岸的中心位置,处于长江黄金水道和以上海市为中心的黄金海岸 的交汇点,内通长江沿岸18个省市,外通太平洋。岛南沿有深水岸线40多千米,具有良 好的建港条件。崇明岛于公元618年露出水面,迄今已有1300多年的历史。由于长江携带的大量泥沙淤积,崇明岛每年以143米的 速度向东海延伸,增加土地约487公顷。 崇明岛狭而长,形如春蚕,东临浩瀚的东 海,西接万里长江,北与启东、海门一衣带水,南依上海市,属长江冲积平原,是我国仅次于台湾和海南岛的第三大岛。 崇明岛大气污染程度较轻微,水、土地也较净化,加之气候属北亚热带,温度适中,四季分明,光照充足,有利于多种农作物生长。崇明岛有许多名、优、特、稀产品,如面丈鱼、凤尾鱼、鳗鱼、对虾、白山羊、金瓜、甜玉米、芦 笋、食用菌、崇明大白菜等。无数候鸟到岛上栖息、觅食。崇明岛已成为我国候鸟重点保护区。Chongming Island is the world's largest island, located in the Yangtze RiverEstuary and the center position of the east coast of Chinese, at the intersectionof Yangtze River golden waterway and taking Shanghai city as the center of theGold Coast, pass along the Yangtze River in 18 provinces and cities, outside through the pacific.
